Asha Patel, Underwriting Manager - London

I’ve worked in insurance for 15 years. I studied law and sociology at University and then a Post Graduate Diploma in Law at The College of Law in Guildford.

After writing the traditional commercial combined policies, I really wanted to specialise in something a more unique. I was fortunate enough to work with some great people who introduced me to Life Science and I’ve never looked back.

I have always been interested in Life Science, it’s constantly evolving at such great pace, with things like new medical devices and drug discovery occurring all the time. As a Life Science underwriter I get to see the new innovations first hand and my role means that I play a small part in supporting a sector that changes lives.

 What do you consider your greatest achievement?

There’s plenty that I’m proud of, but thinking about work for the moment, my greatest achievement is where I am now. I have the honour of the day-to-day management and leadership of the London Life Science team on both the Lloyd’s and Company platforms. To head up such a talented, passionate team of underwriters at a forward thinking company like CNA Hardy is an achievement in itself.
