David Mann, Chairman
David joined the Hardy (Underwriting Agencies) Limited Board in November 2004 and then joined the Hardy Underwriting Group Board in June 2005. He became Chairman of both companies on 1 January 2006. He has extensive knowledge of the Lloyd's market and the global insurance industry, having formerly been the active underwriter of non-marine syndicate 435, which was managed by D P Mann Ltd ("DPM"). DPM was acquired by General Re in 1998 and changed its name to Faraday Underwriting Ltd in 2001. He was appointed Chairman of Hardy Underwriting Bermuda Limited on 12 December 2007.
Barbara Merry, Chief Executive
Barbara joined the Hardy Underwriting Group Board on 29 January 2002, having been appointed as Chief Executive on 14 January 2002. She is a director of the other group companies. Barbara has extensive Lloyd's experience, having worked at the Corporation of Lloyd's for 14 years, latterly as a general manager in the regulatory division and then as managing director of another Lloyd's managing agent. Between 2003 and 2008 she was a member of the Lloyd's Market Association Board and a member of the Council of Lloyd's from 2007 to 2009 inclusive. She is on the board of the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers. Barbara was appointed a director of Hardy Underwriting Bermuda Limited on 12 December 2007. She qualified as a chartered accountant in 1984.
Jamie MacDiarmid, Finance Director
Jamie joined Hardy in April 2003 as finance director of Hardy (Underwriting Agencies) Limited. He was appointed to the Board of Hardy Underwriting Group on 1 October 2003. He is also a director of other group companies. He was previously a manager with KPMG, specialising in the insurance sector, having qualified as a chartered accountant with Neville Russell in 1996. Jamie was appointed a director of Hardy Underwriting Bermuda Limited on 12 December 2007.
Paul Bailie, Managing Director - Bermuda
Paul Bailie is the Managing Director of Hardy Bermuda Limited and was previously a non-executive director of Hardy Underwriting Bermuda Limited. Prior to joining Hardy, Paul was the Chairman of JLT Insurance Management (Bermuda) Ltd. Paul started his career with Willis in Belfast before moving to Bermuda in 1986 with Johnson & Higgins. Since that time he has largely been involved with alternative risk financing activity including the management of both captive insurance companies and other alternative market entities. Qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII), Paul has been involved with various industry bodies and educational initiatives in Bermuda.
Julian Cusack, Non Executive Director
Julian is the Chief Risk Officer of Aspen Insurance Holdings Limited (AIHL') and Chairman and Chief Executive of Aspen Insurance Limited ("Aspen Bermuda"). Aspen Bermuda is the Bermuda operating subsidiary of AIHL, of which he has been a director since June 2002. He served as Chief Financial Officer of AIHL from the company's foundation in 2002 until 30 April 2007. Julian previously worked as Managing Director of Wellington Underwriting Agencies Limited from 1992 to 1996 and was Group Finance Director of Wellington Underwriting Plc from 1996 to 2002.
Allan Dunkle, Non Executive Director
Since 1985, Allan has been a director, officer and major shareholder of Finance & Risk Services Ltd., managers, advisors and consultants in international reinsurance. His clients have included major reinsurers, professional firms and regulators in Bermuda, UK, USA, Latin America, the Far East and Europe. He has served as a director of several offshore companies and is currently a director of the offshore companies in Bermuda for TransCanada Pipelines Ltd. and AECOM. Allan qualified as a US certified public accountant in 1978 and as a Canadian/Bermudian chartered accountant in 1979. He is also a certified fraud examiner.
Anthony Taylor, Non Executive Director
Anthony has been an underwriter for over 35 years specialising in property and casualty business. He is currently Non-Executive Chairman of Montpelier Reinsurance, the Bermuda based reinsurer. He was previously President and Chief Executive Officer of Montpelier. Anthony was recently appointed Non-Executive Chairman of Catco Reinsurance Opportunities Fund Ltd, an LSE-listed closed-end fund which invests in retrocession contracts. Anthony previously worked in senior roles in the insurance sector including at Wellington Plc and Willis Faber Agencies. Anthony is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII).
Fiona Luck, Non Executive Director
Fiona has had a long career in the insurance industry and was most recently Chief of Staff, Executive Vice President and Special Advisor to the CEO of XL Capital Ltd. Prior to joining XL Capital Ltd in 1999, she worked for Ace Ltd as Executive Vice President responsible for Joint Ventures and Financial Lines and at Marsh McLennan Inc where she was a Managing Director. She qualified as a Scottish chartered accountant in 1982.
Patrick Gage, Director of Underwriting
Patrick joined Hardy in July 2006 and was active underwriter for syndicate 38Twenty prior to its merger into syndicate 382 for the 2009 account. He leads the non-marine property business unit and has been deputy for syndicate 382 since 38Twenty was merged into it. Patrick was appointed to the Hardy (Underwriting Agencies) Limited Board on 7 September 2006 and to the Board of Hardy Underwriting Group plc on 16 May 2007. He is Chief Underwriting Officer of Hardy Re. Patrick was previously employed by Chaucer syndicates Limited as active underwriter of Broadgate syndicate 1301 and prior to that was a director of Gan London Limited. He has over 30 years experience in the Lloyd's and London insurance market. In April 2011, Patrick was appointed as the Director of Underwriting of syndicate 382.
